Incubating and birthing a baby might be the most amazing and intense experience of your life. The physical and emotional changes that your body will go through after your baby is born are dramatic. Within hours of birth your hormone levels will drop as your body begins to shift from caring for your baby inside to caring for your baby from the outside. Therefore, it is common to feel a combination of bliss and exhaustion following pregnancy and birth. Your emotions may fluctuate dramatically. It’s important to allow yourself to laugh and to cry during this tender time. Let yourself know that it is “normal” to not know exactly what to do.
Take time to close your eyes and breathe. Surround yourself with relaxing music and soothing aromas. Set up a support system to help with meals, cleaning, and errands so that you can focus your energy on caring for your baby and for yourself.
